After four years of running events, the weather has finally got the better of us – due to an absolutely abysmal forecast for Saturday, we’ve had to rethink the Viva Port Talbot Christmas Parade and make quite a few changes.
Don’t worry! We’re still going ahead, but it’ll look a bit different from normal. Read on for all the info ![]()
- We will no longer be holding the parade portion of the event – no one wants to see Santa’s beard flying away on the wind! Instead, all our princesses and superheroes will be mingling in the Aberafan Shopping Centre from 11am to 2pm.
- Our market stalls will now be located in the central square of the shopping centre, so you’ll still be able to get yourself a Christmas treat; we’ve got brownies, cakes, pies, bath bombs, and more!
- We’ve unfortunately had to cancel the bumper cars and snow globe photo opportunity, but you can still take a photo in Santa’s sleigh in the shopping centre.
Still going ahead as normal, we have…
- Festivities kick off on stage in the shopping centre from 11:30am! We’ve got a line-up packed full of Christmas music and magic for big and small kids alike
:
11:30am: Princess songs from Glass Slipper Events
12pm: The Thrillionaires
12:45pm: Frozen songs from PS. .Parties
1:15pm: The Thrillionaires - Meet Santa himself at the Aberafan Shopping Centre Grotto, open til 5pm! Tickets are £6 with no pre-booking required.
- If you’ve got a hunkering for Christmas crafts then we’ve got loads on offer for you! A Taste of Times Past will be holding free workshops making Christmas tree toppers, hot chocolate, cookies, and more from 9:30am to 2pm, while Port Talbot Library have crafts and Lego on from 9am!
- Head down to The Business Community at Glan Afan for a mini Christmas photoshoot with Steve Miller Photography! Drop him a message to pre-book your spot (walk-ins are welcome but will depend on availability!) and slots are £20.
- And finally, don’t forget that it’s the first free parking Saturday in the run up to Christmas! All council-run town centre car parks are free to park in for the day, and will be free every Saturday from now until the big day.
We’re really sorry for the massive overhaul to such a beloved event, but unfortunately we can’t control the weather (we really wish we could!!). We still wanted to host the event in some form as we know Christmas is a time of year that everyone in town loves, and we didn’t want to let the community down. We hope you all understand and still enjoy the event.
As always, we’d like to thank Aberavon Rugby Club for providing the town centre Christmas lights this year, they look amazing and we know everyone in town really appreciates them.
Thank you all for your understanding and we’ll see you on Saturday!
